The Future of Desktop as a Service
For the third year in a row, Gartner has named Microsoft a Leader in the Desktop as a Service (DaaS) Magic Quadrant – a recognition that also reflects the strength of our partnership at Baggenstos.
According to the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Desktop as a Service 2025, Microsoft remains the clear frontrunner in the shift from traditional on-premises desktops to cloud-based workplaces. Analysts predict that by 2027, virtual desktops will be cost-effective for 95% of users, and cloud workplaces will be standard for 20% of the workforce — twice as many as in 2019.
Cloud workplaces, by the way, work seamlessly across multiple device platforms — but these must be securely managed. Our experts will explain how in the free Baggenstos webinar on 26 November. Register now.
Where DaaS Adoption Is Growing
Gartner estimates that Microsoft’s installed DaaS base is distributed across North America (60%), Europe (30%), and the rest of the world (10%). Most organisations deploying digital workplaces employ between 100 and 5,000 staff. Key industries for Microsoft include financial services, the public sector, and consulting and business services.
“Microsoft is providing a new technological foundation for work in the age of AI,” says Othmar Frey, CSO at Baggenstos. “Combined with our expertise, our customer proximity, and our ability to deliver tailor-made solutions, we empower business models and enable new possibilities.”

The Cloud-Integrated Workplace
Microsoft’s vision lies in the unique combination of DaaS and AI — brought to life through an integrated platform that empowers people, simplifies IT, and adapts to the needs of organisations across all industries. The result: new working models, improved efficiency, and support for teams — anytime, anywhere.
The next generation of digital workplaces is built on five key pillars:
- Empowering a modern workforce: Deeply embedded in organisations, Microsoft understands enterprise complexity. Windows 365 and Azure Virtual Desktop support everyone — from frontline staff to global teams — with secure access to resources, anywhere, anytime.
- Creating an integrated ecosystem: Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, Intune, Defender and other core services work hand in hand — for scalable productivity and compliance.
- Scaling globally with trust: With data centres around the world, Microsoft delivers unmatched geographical coverage and compliance capabilities.
- Enabling flexibility: No two organisations are the same. Microsoft offers flexible licensing and deployment models — fully managed with Windows 365 or customisable with Azure Virtual Desktop — so customers can choose what best fits their strategy and growth plans.
- Innovating for the future: Microsoft continues to invest in AI-driven management, performance optimisation, and user experience improvements.
