Women in IT
We wanted to know how it feels for women to work at Baggenstos. We asked interesting questions in an interview. The exciting answers from our female employees are now available here in writing and on video:
Evelin Mareels in conversation with Alexandra Comben (Operation Engineer)
Evelin: The proportion of women in the IT industry is still quite low at around 19 percent. How does it feel for you to sometimes be the only woman in the room?
Alex: In most cases, I don't notice it. I always feel well taken care of and welcome in the office.
Evelin: What were your motivations for starting a career in the IT industry and what do you particularly like about your job?
Alex: When I was an apprentice, I already helped my colleagues with their IT problems, at that time even simpler problems. After the KV apprenticeship, I looked for a lateral entry position in IT. I find it particularly good to be able to provide support to clients.
Evelin: What opportunities for professional development do you see for yourself in a sector still dominated by male colleagues?
Alex: With today's tools and offers I see no limits in which direction I would like to train.
Evelin: What things have already improved in terms of equality and how could a career in IT be made even more attractive for women?
Alex: Since I'm still young, I haven't had that many bad experiences.
Evelin: Have you ever had a special or even amusing experience with male colleagues?
Alex: Nothing worth mentioning.
Evelin: What do you particularly like about Baggenstos and what do you wish for the future?
Alex: I especially like the fact that I'm seen as a person here, just like anyone else in the office, regardless of gender. I also think it's great that my boss wants to train and promote me. I would like this to happen in the future as well. I want to continue my education and develop further in an environment where I feel comfortable.
Evelin: Thank you for the interview!
