Microsoft: Important changes for non-profit organisations
From March 2024, significant changes to Microsoft's Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) programme for non-profit and academic customers will come into force. The subscription options will be fundamentally revised under the name "New Commerce Experience" (NCE). What does this mean for you?
What is the New Commerce Experience?
The "New Commerce Experience" brings new rules for subscribing to Microsoft online services such as Microsoft 365 and Office 365 for non-profit organisations and the education sector. Previous "legacy" conditions will be replaced by the NCE.
Important changes at a glance
Flexible terms: Subscriptions are now available both annually and monthly.
- Automatic renewal: Automatic renewal takes place by default, unless this is explicitly rejected.
- Surcharge for short terms: Monthly subscriptions are 20 % more expensive.
- Fixed term with price guarantee: The selected term is fixed and the price remains the same throughout.
- Limited cancellation options: Cancellations or adjustments are only possible on the renewal date.
- Upgrade options: It is possible to upgrade to another product during the term.
- Add-ons: These are automatically synchronised with the base product.
- Consolidation of renewal dates: New licences can be matched to existing expiry dates.
- Trial licences: Free trial versions are automatically converted into annual subscriptions if not cancelled.
Gradual introduction
Microsoft is gradually introducing the NCE model. Initially, the old and new terms and conditions will run in parallel; from July 2024, only NCE subscriptions will be possible. Conclusion The New Commerce Experience will bring far-reaching changes for Microsoft CSP customers in the non-profit and academic sectors. It is important that customers in the non-profit sector understand the new conditions and adjust their subscriptions accordingly.
