Office 2013 - Important changes for users

Office 2013: This will change from 13 October 2020

For all Office 2013 users there are important news about upcoming changes. Connections from Office 2013 customers to commercial Office 365 services will no longer be supported after October 13, 2020. From that date, ongoing investments in Office 365 cloud services - including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive for Business - will continue based on Office 2013 requirements. Therefore, we recommend that all customers who are still using Office 2013 migrate to Office 365 ProPlus now, at the latest. Support for Office 2016 and Office 2019 connections to Office 365 cloud services will continue until October 2023. Please refer to the Office system requirements matrix for schedules.

What are the exact implications for you?

The fact is that Microsoft will not take active measures to prevent older Office clients such as Office 2013 and Office 2010 from connecting to Office 365 services. BUT: Older customers trying to connect to a modern, always-on cloud service may experience performance issues. In addition, there is an increased security risk and may be specific regional or industry compliance issues. In addition, Microsoft Help would not be able to resolve these issues due to unsupported service connections.
