How do passkeys work?
Instead of a password, authentication is based on a key pair. The private key remains securely on the device, while the public key is registered on the website. When logging in, your device proves that it has the private key without transmitting it directly - this makes Passkeys particularly secure.
How to set up passkeys with Microsoft Authenticator
- Open a website or app that supports passkeys.
- Create a passkey according to the instructions and select a Windows Hello verification method (PIN, fingerprint or facial recognition).
- The passkey is stored securely on your device and can be used for future logins.
